Introduction
Nursing was formerly a demanding career with long hours and increased anxiety and physical stress. People who desire to pursue a career in nursing are typically intimidated by the various stereotypes and falsehoods surrounding the profession. However, it is correct to note that in the past, nurses were always weary while on the job due to the infinite duties that they were expected to complete before their shift ended. This often resulted in a challenging workplace, dissatisfaction, a lack of job satisfaction, and high attrition.
The delineation of advanced practice nurses’ tasks occurred when the healthcare industry was under a lot of strain, and the reaction of those who could handle it led to significant advancement in nursing. However, due to the emergence and growth of more defined responsibilities for nurses, this has changed dramatically over time. This has made nurses’ jobs more accessible since you are not forced to handle all tasks because the jobs are more clearly defined. Anyone considering entering this field can now be more explicit about what they need to specialize in. Nursing has even encroached into the area of several young physicians, which is unavoidable. As a result, the emphasis of this article is on providing an outline of some of the tasks of APNs.
Briefly define advance nursing practice and the roles in advanced practice nursing pertaining to clinical practice, primary care, education, administration, and health information. Distinguish between Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP) and the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).
In the case of primary care, advanced practice nurses (APNs) central role is linked to healthcare settings such as acute care for stabilization of patients who are encountering unstable critical diseases and chronic conditions (Cox et al., 2020). Advanced practice nurses (APNs) are registered and trained nurses who have a certified doctorate or master’s degree in nursing. APNs carry out different functions such as interpreting laboratory examinations/tests, diagnosing conditions, providing anesthesia, and prescription medications. APNs also play a critical role in clinical practices and offer CRN anesthetists and certified nurse-midwife (CNM) services.
APNs also offer detailed patient education, answer their different questions and focus on patient pain management to help attain quality care. APNs are also tasked with managing the nursing staff in the healthcare facility. Nurse administrators are licensed registered nurses with extensive education, expertise, and know-how in the nursing field (Miranda Neto et al, 2018). APNs also lead to an increment in accessing healthcare information among patients. Such information is linked to emergency and critical care.
APN is also the primary designation for nurses with advanced degrees in nursing. There exist four critical specializations for APNs certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA), clinical nurse specialist (CNS), certified nurse-midwife (CNM), and nurse practitioner (NP) (Knestrick & Russell, 2020). Thus advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) is similar to Advanced practice nurses (APN) since ANP works independently in clinical and private practices such as the primary healthcare practitioners. Describe the advance nursing practice role you aspire to and briefly share the experiences and/or qualities you have that have influenced your decision. Describe your personal nursing philosophy and the model that helped you describe it.
I believe that providing any healthcare to a group of individuals is a good idea. Family nursing is the ANP job that I like. For example, a group of individuals can include two or more persons or even a unit. Family nursing is associated with the family, and it entails a family nurse offering different services to a family. Family nursing is much more sophisticated, making health care more accessible to many people. Family nursing also makes it simple to follow the progress of each ailing family member.
It is critical to note that a derailed follow-up on the patient’s health is vital as it allows practitioners to beware of what extra measures should be taken to achieve quality care based on the current findings. Patients who encounter strict follow-up are more likely to recover from different illnesses as compared to those who do not have follow-ups done. It is also crucial to mention that despite the healthcare practitioner being involved in the follow-up, the patients and the caregivers should be willing to be active in sharing vital details that could be used in assessing the current condition. This means that utmost honesty is required to help know the drugs that could be utilized henceforth or any other significant procedures that could be taken. In some cases, a follow-up could help the practitioners realize that the patient’s health is deteriorating. In some cases, it would help them recognize that the patient is improving despite being diagnosed with acute illness.
It also aids in observing family members’ health care environments, making it excellent for nursing. Some of my experiences with family nursing have indeed been pretty useful since I was able to watch some of the jobs that they perform when one of our family nurses came to visit us and offered the essential services. They also mentioned the same way regarding family nursing during interacting with allies and other people. Family nurses must have a variety of academic credentials, but that is not all; they must also possess a variety of personal attributes that are believed to be among the characteristics they should have. One of them is compassion, which is always shown by a willingness to help poor and needy individuals. Compassion, optimism, prioritization, and even communication are some of the other attributes. My attitude is to give centralized treatment to every patient or anybody who needs medical attention. I consider the healthcare system to be about assisting others, something I plan on continuing to do for the remainder of my nursing career.
Selected role
We needed to find an interviewee who could offer correct information about family nursing to develop comprehensive data. We decided that the interviewee should be a family NP or an individual who works very closely with them. As a result, the interviewee was a primary healthcare nurse who also worked with family NPs from time to time. As the nurse demonstrated, family nursing covers a region that hasn’t been addressed in a long time. Many individuals interpret nursing differently due to the apparent component of delivering care to a unit, which makes them feel the importance of nurses in health care. According to the respondent, most nurses will contemplate moving into the family sphere.
Examine regulatory and legal requirements for the state in which you plan to practice/work.
Every state in the United States handles nurses independently, which means that individual states can decide which nurses are permitted to work in their regions depending on their nursing rules and regulations. Some legal and regulatory criteria may be similar; for instance, in Texas, nurses must have a recognized certification, which is only provided after completing and passing the NCLEX-RN test (Glasgow et al., 2019). It’s possible that having family nursing credentials isn’t all that important, given the many regulations imposed in Texas to curtail the operation of family nurses.

Identify the required competencies (domains) and certification requirements for your selected role.
Nurses might possess a variety of talents that serve as a gauge of their nursing competency, particularly in family nursing. Rational reflection and the capacity to care for a big group, such as a family, are two qualities. In family nursing, certification standards are equally significant. One of the most fundamental qualification criteria is that of a nurse practitioner, for which a registered nursing certificate is available. The different states may grant additional certifications where family nurses might find work.
Define Transformational Leadership as it relates to your identified leadership attributes that you possess or need to develop.
In nursing, there are many different leadership approaches and styles to choose from, but there is one that always remains unique. The approach to leadership that is impeccable is the transformational leadership style. Nurses benefit from transformational leadership because it encourages them to come up with new and pertinent suggestions that may be heard and acknowledged. In the workplace, transformational leadership always works to ensure nurses appreciate each other. Good leadership is constantly at the helm of transformative leadership, guiding nurses and other employees into a new period of innovation. The adjustments are always intended to produce a tranquil, problem-free working atmosphere that allows for advancement based just on the sustainability of the nursing practice. It is important for an organization to ensure that they undertake the best adjustments to avoid instances of further problems occurring as this could derail the overall agenda.
Transformational leadership assists in reducing the expense of care and decreasing turnover. In this leadership style, having a leader who loves transformation and is a change initiator may be beneficial. In transformational leadership, change is constantly on the table. This is because change is inevitable, which means that healthcare facilities should be ready to embrace change. The difference could attribute to positive or negative impacts hence the need to be well-versed with different measures to apply in case a change occurs. Also, measures on coping with change could help alleviate the impacts of the change, which means that the routine activities are not interrupted.
As mentioned, new ideas help different outline strategies that are crucial in running an organization. Hence, the views of the nursing staff and the management should be well analyzed, and the significant ones should be applied to help steer growth in an institution. Lastly, with transformation leadership, nothing is permanent; thus, changes are expected to happen time after time. Changes are made to ease the process of offering care in the healthcare settings, and therefore, in all lines of care, changes should be appreciated, whether they are minor or significant.
Apply the leadership style you will embrace as an APN in primary care.
I would define myself as a considerate person in reference to democratic leadership style in the nursing practice (Alnajjar & Abou Hashish, 2022). This is because I am firm believer that all stakeholders should be offered an opportunity to offer their contribution before making a final decision. In some cases, institutions have made vague or poor decisions because of lack of incorporating the ideas and suggestions from the key stakeholders and this end up affecting major procedures and also leads to waste of time and finances. Because nurses will be involved throughout the decision-making exercise, Democratic leader has the ability to eliminate avoidable conflicts. A facility’s whole nursing staff may be present, or a delegate may be there to assist in the decision-making procedure. Before making any essential changes to legislation or nursing leadership, the democratic leader must always take the guidance of others.
This is critical in nursing since it allows for the creation of a tranquil atmosphere, which is always done via the leadership style. Democratic leadership is really beneficial to nurses, but I believe it is preferable to combine elements of various leadership styles in order to get the best outcomes. Transformational leader is an example, since certain characteristics of transformational leadership might be beneficial in a democratic management setting. Some of the aspects of transformational eldership. could include commitment to active listening which aligns with democratic leadership. Other aspects could be openness to new ideas and thinking. Trusting the team members, the ability to inspire stakeholder participation and tolerance of the intelligence risks.
Describe the current policy or trends related to your APN role in primary care and determine if policy or trend needs to change–if opposed to change, state the reason.
Nursing professionals must follow certain regulations or regulations in order to function in any setting. The regulations and laws are intended to assist with nursing practice and advice. Full practice authority is an illustration of a very typical policy (FPA) (De Bruijn-Geraets et al., 2018). FPA is a health-care strategy that focuses on avoiding limits in the operation of family nursing. FPA allows family nurses to serve like physicians and even fill in for them when a doctor is unavailable. However, a large number of U.S states have yet to enact complete practice power. The decision to adopt the policy is made by several state lawmakers.
If you determine that the above policies or trends require change, propose how APN can lead changes.
Some improvements may be hard to execute because some important actors may have opposing viewpoints on numerous issues. Transformation may be achieved, though, if individuals with similar agendas and objectives band collectively. Changing the feature of FPA may be accomplished by devising methods for communicating the problem to state lawmakers. This may be accomplished by appointing or choosing delegates to bring the issue to state lawmakers and even participate in actual dialogues and conversations with them. It may be conceivable to devise techniques to put more pressure on the transformation to occur. One method would be to have meetings when state lawmakers are invited and the agenda includes complete practice authority. People may participate in active discussions about the policy change during the meeting, which may impact their choice to change. Addressing multiple letters to lawmakers might also speed the process forward.
Conclusion
To summarize, advanced practice nurses play a unique role in society. They have a responsibility that has aided countless individuals and will strive to do so in the future. Different innovations in nursing profession have sparked a lot of growth in the industry, which has improved client contentment on several instances. Advanced practice positions care for patients more than any other career.
