Part 1: Agenda Comparison Grid
Use the Agenda Comparison Grid Template found in the Learning Resources and complete the Part 1: Agenda Comparison Grid based on the current/sitting U.S. president and the previous president, and their agendas related to the population health concern you selected. Be sure to address the following:
Identify and provide a brief description of the population health concern you selected.
Explain how each of the presidential administrations approached the issue.
Identify the allocation of resources that the presidents dedicated to this issue.
Part 2: Agenda Comparison Grid Analysis
Using the information you recorded in Part 1: Agenda Comparison Grid on the template, complete the Part 2: Agenda Comparison Grid Analysis portion of the template, by addressing the following:
Which administrative agency (like HHS, CDC, FDA, OHSA) would most likely be responsible for helping you address the healthcare issue you selected and why is this agency the most helpful for the issue?
How do you think your selected healthcare issue might get on the presidential agenda? How does it stay there?

Agenda Comparison Grid Assignment Template for Part 1 and Part 2
Part 1: Agenda Comparison Grid
Identify the Population Health concern you selected. Opioid Crisis
Describe the Population Health concern you selected. Opioid addiction impacts almost every community in the US such as remote communities. About 130 people die from overdose or opioid addiction which increases the cos of healthcare by approximately $78 billion dollars yearly. In the late 90’s pharmaceuticals companies took a step of challenging opioid use to physicians as a substitute medication for painkillers (“Understanding the epidemic,” 2021). The pharmacy companies came up with a strategy of ensuring that opioids were less addictive, more safe and had less die effects as compared to other painkillers. In 2018, about 68,000 Americans lost their loves because of drug overdoses including more than 47,000 opioid deaths. The effects of the crisis are evident in neighborhoods and school in big cities and small towns (“Opioid overdose crisis,” 2022) .
Administration (President Name) BIDEN TRUMP
Explain how each of the two presidential administrations approached the issue. During Biden’s first month in office, he announced of the six goals for public health in his administration. Unfortunately, the opioid crisis was not among Biden’s first priorities. The support Act was approved by Trump and it inhibited providers from updating or writing narcotic medications and prescriptions (“President Trump signs bipartisan bill to fight opioid crisis,” 2018). The narcotic prescriptions are now being monitored electronically. This has made it hard for patients to acquire different narcotic prescriptions from different providers. Donald Trump’s addiction prevention strategy was a well-calculated and developed plan and was introduced to the society. The president supported efforts to restructure opioid prescribing laws as well as offering communities financial support to offer drug abuse rehabilitation (“Healthcare,” n.d.).
Identify the allocations of resources that the current and previous presidents dedicated to this issue. Biden is investing $10 billion to ensure he equips communities with the necessary tools to curb overdose and respond to the emergencies caused by opioid crisis. Biden have set aside $5 billion drug use disorders and problems and refer them to the suitable services, the funds will also be used to support evidence-based educational initiatives for teenagers about mental health/substance use disorders
Expansion of the portfolio of medical practitioners for treatment of substance use disorders. Building on laws such as Opioid Workforce Act 2019, and Biden will collaborate with the Congress by investing $5 billion for expansion of medical practices and assessment of training and education for drug use medical workers.
Diagnosis and treatment of disorders. The finds will aid in supporting training of the primary cares and other members of the health team to establish a detailed care system. Invest in research by ensuring HEAL funds are doubled. The $10 billion investment will aid in supporting the efforts to better chronic pain management. In the delivering specific interventions to specific populations will invest $10 billion in initiatives intended to cater for populations with unique needs and situations. In the expansion of veterans’ access to substance medical healthcare and substance use disorders, Joe Biden will direct the Veterans Affairs Secretary to make sure the medical practitioners are well-trained in offering treatment practices and safe drug prescriptions (“Biden plan to end the opioid crisis,” 2020). Joe Boden will convince the criminal justice system and public health services to offer evidence-based substance use disorder treatments such as MAT, to individuals during their confinement and after being released (“Biden plan to end the opioid crisis,” 2020). In the long run, Joe Biden will expand the necessary in investments to assist kids with neonatal opioid withdrawal and neonatal withdrawal syndrome. Obtained a record of $6 billion land. Nation history began Opioid Abuse Ending and demand reduction plan to deal with the different causes of drug crisis.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) bestowed $9 million record in grant to allow expansion of access to treatment, prevention and the recovery services for the local communities and the states (NIH HEAL Initiative, 2021).
Trump also passed the CRIB Act which helps Medicaid assist mothers and babies who are physically dependent on opioids since birth by offering care in patient pediatric convalescent facilities (govinfo.gov | U.S. Government Publishing Office, n.d.).
Part 2: Agenda Comparison Grid Analysis
Administration
Which administrative agency (like HHS, CDC, FDA, OHSA) would most likely be responsible for helping you address the healthcare issue you selected? Why is this agency the most helpful?
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) developed (Helping to End Addiction Long-Term) HEAL in April 2018. This was a program to look into the opioid crisis in the United States. The inventions in developing medicines that help address addictions to opioids, establishing substitutes strategies for the treatment of pain while looking into the cause and bettering results for infants and kids who are mainly exposed to opioids made to assist cope and address their social and mental needs.
How do you think your selected healthcare issue might get on the presidential agenda? How does it stay there? I believe that despite anyone being in the White House, there will be various steps to be undertaken prior to the government acts on the strategized plan by establishing a relationship with the policy maker early (Adams et al., 2018). It would be essential to increase public awareness and educate the people and get well respected people/celebrities to create opioid awareness. The urgency creating opioid awareness should stay on the presidential agenda.
Who would you choose to be the entrepreneur/ champion/sponsor (this can be a celebrity, a legislator, an agency director, or others) of the healthcare issue you selected? An example is Michael J. Fox a champion for Parkinson’s disease. I would opt for Kevin Costner to be the champion/sponsor/entrepreneur with NIH since I think that he is a respected and prominent man. Jamie Lee Curtis would also by my other choice since she as a great history of opioid rehabilitation and addiction. I feel that as Jamie is popular hence she would be the best option to help reach many individuals with addiction problems. Also Jamie would easily relate and be empathetic about people situations as she has grown through them hence she would be a good mentor.
