Future Scope, Role, and Professional Obligations Paper

QUESTION
Assessment Description
Advanced registered nursing graduates are entering the profession at dynamic time when roles and scope of practice are shifting based on developments in legislation and policy in response to the evolving needs of the health care system. Professional nursing organizations play an important role in making sure the perspectives of advanced registered nurses are heard, and in supporting nurse specialties in their efforts to expand their scope of practice and their full participation throughout the health care system.

For this assignment, you will conduct research on the current scope of practice for your specialty and efforts that are being made to expand that scope and the role of the advanced registered nurse in positively influencing the health care system. Write a 1,250-1,500 word paper that includes the following:

A discussion of the scope of your future role as an advanced registered nurse, including any regulatory, certification, or accreditation agencies that define that scope.
A discussion of three professional nursing organizations that you think are most influential in advancing the scope and influence of advanced nursing. Of these organizations, evaluate the one that you would most like to join. How do its goals and mission fit in with your worldview and philosophy of care? How might membership in this organization improve your practice?
A discussion of a controversial or evolving issue that is most likely to affect your scope of practice or role in the next few years. How do you think this issue could influence the profession and other stakeholders and why does it matter to the advanced registered nurse?

Introduction
The scope of healthcare delivery is dynamic and constantly advances to provide quality and safer healthcare. Nurses are considered the main stakeholders in healthcare delivery and have traditionally offered the general public high-quality care. Professional respect in the medical community was earned through years of lobbying, organisation, and, most critically, intellectual advancement. Nurses today command more respect and autonomy than they did 70 years ago as less vital members of a clinical care team (Mercer, 2021).APRNs who play critical roles in the future of health care include nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse anaesthetists, and nurse-midwives. APRNs treat and diagnose illnesses, counsel the public on health concerns, manage chronic disease, and participate in continuous education to keep current on technical, methodological, and other improvements in the profession. (ANA, n.d). This paper explores my current scope of practice as a General Nurse Practitioner in advanced nurse practitioner and my efforts to expand the scope of practice within the speciality. It will also explore the differences in professions for Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) and Advanced Registered Nurses (RNs) and how they influence healthcare delivery. Professional Nursing organisations are also explored, aligning the best practice philosophy with my objectives and missions as an APN. The issue of the turnover rates for transitioning nurses, especially for general nurse practitioners, is also presented and its impact on the scope of my profession.

The Scope of Future Role as an Advanced Registered Nurse
As a General Nurse Practitioner in advanced practice registered nurse, I am subject to roles that assist with all parts of patient care, such as diagnosis, treatment, and consultations. General Nurse Practitioners can work in inpatient and outpatient settings independently or as part of a therapy team. Nurse practitioners can also prescribe medications (Hudspeth & Klein, 2019). A general nurse practitioner can diagnose and treat patients similar to a doctor, but they cannot conduct complex procedures. In addition to their nursing degrees and licenses, general nurse practitioners have obtained additional training. To become a Nurse Practitioner, nursing students must complete advanced courses to treat patients without a doctor. A Master’s of Science in Nursing is required for all advanced practice nurses. Practitioners will almost certainly require their RN license before enrolling to graduate programs. Most graduate programs require a few years of RN job experience. Students may take advanced courses and complete supervised clinical hours as part of their Master’s program. Most regulations defining the profession have a licensure requirement, i.e., a valid RN license, A Master’s Degree, and certifications by national and state organisations, all different within the state of practice. The Evaluation of NP education, improving the scope of the course, and aligning NP practice with the most relevant patient populations will offer value to the job and help satisfy health care provider workforce demands.

Influential Professional Nursing Organizations
The American Nurse Association (ANA)
The American Nurses Association (ANA) is the largest organisation representing 4 million registered nurses in the United States. The American Nurses Association (ANA), formed in 1896 and with members in all 50 states and territories, is the profession’s most influential advocate, representing nurses at every stage of their careers, from professional development opportunities to pushing legislation on issues impacting nurses. The organisation’s mission aims to lead the nursing profession’s scope to shape the future of nursing and healthcare. Following my objective of advancing my career as a Nurse Practitioner, the workforce demand should be catered for. In return, they can meet the health demands of the patient demographic, improving global health outcomes.
The American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS)
The Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) was established in 1988 to provide criteria for nursing speciality certification. The proposed board’s goal was to bring together nurse training and certification organisations. A task team was established to examine the core design of a national committee (ABNS, 2022). The American Board of Nursing Specializations (ABNS) is the only organisation committed only to providing standards and unity to nursing specialities. (ABNS) supports consumer rights by developing, maintaining, and reviewing standardised requirements. Joining the ABNS is the most excellent approach to interacting with other nursing credentialing organisations and discussing the difficulties that certified nurses face.

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners was formed in 2013 by the American Academy of Nurses and the American College of Nurse-Consultants merger. It provides a single platform for nurse practitioners to network and advocates for their issues. AANP empowers all NPs to advance accessible, person-centred, equitable, high-quality health care for diverse populations through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership. NPs volunteer their time and expertise to ensure that NPs and their patients have a say in important healthcare issues.
Most Appealing Professional Organization
The most appealing nursing organisation associated with my career development is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. (AANP). The organisation plays a vital role in advancing patient-centred, more accessible equitable, high-quality healthcare, which is achieved through practice, education and advocacy associated with leadership and research (AANP, 2022). The organisation gives Nurse Practitioners an avenue to advance their profession through advocacy practices. The organisation offers a genuine chance to affect my profession and our country’s health substantially. All state nursing boards accept the Credentials provided by the organisation in the United States, nurse regulators in Canada and Puerto Rico, Medicare, Medicaid, the Veterans Administration, and commercial insurance companies. The Accreditation Board of Specialty Nursing Certification has also accredited the Family NP, Adult-Gerontology NP, and Emergency NP certification programs. ABSNC is the exclusive accrediting agency for nursing certification.

Controversial or Evolving Issue Most Likely to Impact Scope of Practice or Role
The high turnover rate for registered nurses transitioning to Advanced Nurse Practitioners is a major issue affecting the scope of professionalism as a general practitioner. The shift from registered nurse (RN) to nurse practitioner (NP) is a major career role change. There is a transition from an experienced, often expert, RN function to a beginner, inexperienced NP role. This can lead to a shift in professional identity, a loss of confidence, and hampered NP role growth. According to a 2018 national report by NP NOW, an NP recruitment service, there will be a shortage of 29,400 NPs by 2025 (Urbanowicz, 2019). APRNs must ensure that their new graduate colleagues make a meaningful transition to autonomous and independent practice. Developing a well-designed transitional program that provides a systematic path to independent practice would improve the bottom line, efficiency, and health experience (El Hussein & Ha, 2022). Clinical preparedness, leadership abilities, collaboration, and work engagement are essential for new APRN development. Analysing existing internal information, evaluating tools supplied by groups setting standards for similar programs, and networking with colleagues around the country are excellent resources for creating an effective programme.
Conclusion
Nurse practitioners’ (NPs’) scope of practise is expanding, and an increasing number of registered nurses are progressing their careers to become NPs. Nurse practitioners are ready to increase access to high-quality care while raising care standards through associative interprofessional collaborations. As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, the advancement of quality healthcare services is important throughout all specialities. Collaborating across all professions defining the Advance Practice Nurses will ensure that contemporary issues impacting healthcare delivery are identified and solutions implemented to enforce the quality and safety of healthcare and advance the scope of professionalism for Nurse Practitioners.
