Critical reflection of growth and development during practicum experience
As a result of the clinical setting practicum experience, students are expected to grow and develop. As a result of the clinical setting practicum, it is essential to conduct critical self-reflection. Because of it, I’ve been able to see where I need to work on my clinical abilities and how they differ from those of others. It was decided to use the SMART method to set goals for this practice, which included learning about various mental health diagnoses from supervisors and becoming proficient with mental health disorders. Improve your communication with patients and coworkers by conducting more self-audits. In order to effectively treat a wide range of patients, these goals were matched with activities that teach students various screening techniques and psychotherapeutic approaches.
The process of achieving the goal is determined by the nature of the objectives adopted and aligned with the goals. When the objectives are met through well-planned activities, the goals are either directly or indirectly achieved. The first goal of working with providers and patients to learn screening instruments was met. When I started working as a nurse practitioner, I learned how to screen a large number of patients and successfully put my knowledge into practice. As part of evaluating the five treatment plans for psychotherapeutic modalities, I worked with nurses and preceptors to learn how to use the various psychotherapeutic modalities, as well as working with instructors to ensure proper care for psychiatric treatments. Well-executed activities helped me learn how to evaluate patients’ cases, as well as how to evaluate and analyze various mental health cases in a variety of mental health facilities. As a result, the goals of the practicum were achieved and I gained valuable experience.
Reflection
The most difficult part of practicum was figuring out which psychotherapeutic modalities would work best for which types of patients and how to apply that knowledge across a diverse range of ages. The most difficult part of this practicum was deciding on a psychotherapeutic modality that would work for different patients and achieve the desired outcome. The most important thing I learned from my experience was how to apply what I learned in school to real-world situations. My experience in nursing has also taught me the importance of teamwork, as well as the joy of learning from a fellow nurse. Cognitive and behavioral therapies, experiential and humanistic, psychodynamic, and somatic therapies were among the options available to patients. The ability to use all of these modalities on the same patient at the same time was developed, allowing for more rapid treatment. Psychiatric patients can benefit from cognitive and behavioral therapies combined with collaborative therapies. I would use a more holistic approach to psychotherapeutic modalities for both adults and children. If the psychotherapeutic modality is properly selected, I am confident that the patient’s needs are better met. Care should be taken, however, to ensure that the therapies used are appropriate for the patient’s psychiatric conditions.
Effective communication with patients and the care team ensured that there were no bottlenecks in the flow of patients, resulting in a smoother patient experience. As a result, the facility’s cycle time and patient demand were both shortened. This was accomplished by streamlining activities such as registration and discharge to save time. To be an effective practitioner, one must enhance one’s abilities, information, and ability to communicate. To advance these practices, we must refrain from discussing patients’ behavior, avoid making assumptions about their thoughts, and allow patients to speak freely and openly. In order to communicate effectively with my preceptor, I need to notify them at any time of anything that I think they should be aware of. Because of this, I’m always on time and ready to learn, and I always ask the correct questions. With all the practice resources available, there’s nothing more I need to do than focus on my duties and keep learning. Consequently, I have had a very enriching experience thus far.
