Involvement persists as etched memories in our minds with each subsequent encounter, while one’s interests may drive information. While it may not be possible to change an individual’s perspective on everything, involvements may significantly influence the quality of service they get. As a result of working with various patients from varied backgrounds, my cultural competence abilities have grown. Due to their different ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, and age, patients tend to have various values and opinions. Working in an all-encompassing workplace needs a high level of dedication and cultural awareness. To effectively care for the elderly, it is necessary to possess a wide range of skills and attributes, including knowledge, competence, sensitivity, and motivation (Hultsjö et al., 2019). As a result of my work with the elderly, I’ve gained a wide range of ideals that have shaped my professional approach. Patients with differing views and needs were better able to communicate with me because of my learned ideals. Due to both excellent and negative influences, I may state that they are at the extremes of their respective categories. When it comes to spending extra time in my office, my patients are sometimes apprehensive.
Secondly, my abilities and knowledge base grew tremendously. This includes the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from various backgrounds. Certain diseases have been linked to certain races. In addition, a wide range of illnesses might be drawn by a variety of living situations. Livelihood affects one’s ability to get medication, food, nutrition, and risk of developing a particular ailment (Geldenhuys, 2016). Continuing my study to learn more about illness causes and how they affect an individual’s vulnerability, I’ve carried out further experiments to evaluate and test possible causes and breakthroughs. The results of my investigation have given me a lot more self-assurance. In addition, it has improved my ability to connect with my patients. As a result of my work in healthcare, I’ve discovered a career path that I’d want to explore further.
Dealing with large gatherings demands extraordinary performance and substantial preparation. A nurse’s skill may be required in a variety of areas at any one moment. Time allocation is a skill that must be mastered without prejudice or favoritism. Additionally, a health care worker must adapt to a variety of scenarios in the workplace (Geldenhuys, 2016). Having a nurse on hand during an emergency is critical to the patient’s life. In times of crisis, nurses are often the first to arrive on the scene. As a result, a nurse must be very adaptable in these situations, requiring extraordinary flexibility. I can tell you that these abilities are critical in healthcare delivery. For example, a nurse must prioritize a patient in active labor to rescue both the mother’s and the child’s lives when two patients report to a facility, one suffering from slight stomach discomfort and the other in active labor. Due to the sheer agility and conversational skills I’ve developed while working with patients, I’ve become a better time manager. Because time is a precious commodity, the appropriate use is essential.
It has also helped me develop a wide range of interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with varied groups of individuals that demand tailored treatment and personal care plans. I’ve been able to research healthcare issues more thoroughly because of my gained information. Optimizing diagnostic capability and reducing misdiagnosis chances are the main benefits of this method. Depending on the patient, a nurse may be able to detect a sickness that is otherwise undetectable. To prevent erroneous treatment or misdiagnosis, the patient should be thoroughly examined by a nurse. My capacity to offer well-informed and authentic outcomes, critical in my nursing profession, has improved dramatically because of my increased accuracy and dependability.
Finally, I have learned to appreciate the need to review a healthcare delivery system that is efficient and effective. Without a thorough study, it is difficult to identify the positives and negatives of a project. It’s also possible to identify strengths and weaknesses by conducting an assessment. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses can help you give the best possible health care since you are rated on what you do best and how well you do it (Geldenhuys, 2016). The evaluation is critical in determining if nearby medical facilities and the surrounding environment contribute to a patient’s sickness. Healthcare practitioners must consider a patient’s personal and environmental characteristics to provide effective and beneficial treatment.
Aging biases witnessed or perpetrated
Recent studies and data show that half of all patients admitted to hospitals are above 65. Geriatric care includes them as an essential part of the continuum of care for the elderly. The aging process weakens the body, making it more susceptible to long-term and short-term illnesses (Kydd & Fleming, 2015). Consequently, it is essential to display outstanding care in the geriatric section to detect falls and improve before illness diagnosis to prevent current disorders from worsening and further complications. According to Solem (2016), those with many chronic diseases, such as the elderly, might be subjected to bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. The whole community may perpetrate institutionalized prejudice.
An elderly patient just came into the hospital for treatment. A patient in the emergency labor room needed our attention, but thankfully, a clinic nursing intern was on hand to take care of the patient. The old patient was cared for by the nurse. He didn’t comprehend what he was being asked, so she asked him for his name instead. Due to her hearing impairment, the patient required the nurse to reiterate her inquiries. The nurse grew agitated and requested the client to dismiss so she may well take care of other patients more quickly. The nursing medical student’s attitude was ill-advised and insensitive. The elderly need to be understood and spoken with well, and they also need to be allowed time and chance to explain themselves in the best manner possible.
In most jobs, discrimination is palpable. It is very uncommon for an experienced nurse to be replaced by a new graduate nurse with less experience in the geriatric ward since she missed a night shift due to the cold. Regardless of one’s life experiences and education, one remains unduly passive as one age (Kagan & Melendez, 2015). As a result of the fact that most businesses are profit-oriented, workers tend to be more active. Many companies prefer to rely on passive nature rather than the operational expertise of their employees, which has been shown time and time again to be ineffective. It would be critical to keeping the older members of an organization around because they would be able to transfer a wide variety of information, skills, and expertise to the younger members of the workforce. Dismissing and referring to older people’s thoughts and ideas as “old” is also part of the problem. Because of their role as stewards of a community’s oral history, linguistic heritage, and cultural heritage, the elders in African communities were revered and treated with dignity. The community’s attitude toward the elderly has undergone a sea change due to this shift. Because of their low social status, they are now seen as useless and weak. Even in some societies, the elderly are stripped of their democratic right to vote because they are too old to vote. According to the Constitution, denying people this right is unethical and unconstitutional. There is no mention of a voter’s maximum age in the constitution, just their minimum.
I was completely uninformed about the need to assist the elderly. Older people sometimes live alone in their houses, making it difficult to dress well or take a shower. As most of them have already lost hope, they have decided to let nature take its course. Be friendly, patient, and empathetic to senior individuals to get better outcomes from the geriatric care professionals. Although the elderly are often hospitalized, most healthcare organizations do not need to engage geriatric specialists. The elderly is a vulnerable demographic. Thus it’s necessary to teach others how to care for them. Geriatrics specialty is needed urgently to overcome some of the problems that have plagued the area in recent years (Kydd & Fleming, 2015). Educating the elderly about the need for self-care and community involvement in their health and well-being is critical if we are to provide equitable care for this vulnerable demographic.

It is necessary to control the alarming percentage of age-based discrimination. The general public should be educated about the effects of aging and that they, too, will reach this point. To foster mutual understanding, it is necessary to speak to people of all ages, focusing on youngsters.
